Genre
Subject Overview
Students are introduced to the concept of genres, what a genre is and how genres help to categorise films. Students will explore sci-fi, action, horror and romantic comedy genres and gain a basic understanding of what ‘genre conventions’ are. They will learn how to recognise particular conventions across different films belonging to a specific genre. Students will gain insight into hybrid genres to understand that genre is a fluid concept and also learn that some films deviate from what is expected of its genre by using conventions from different genres.

- Explain what a genre convention is and paraphrase the various genre conventions learned
- Recognise and explain various conventions present in a specific text
- Illustrate the basic differences between genres using any modality
