FAQs
We know you may have some questions, these are a few of the key ones we often get asked:
Lesson Planning
Q1. When are lesson plans due?
All lesson plans are due by COB Tuesday before the class. This is non-negotiable as some students require access to the content to help them prepare for the class.
All lessons will need to include:
- Lesson plan outline
- Powerpoint
Q2. How can I create interactive lesson plans?
You’ll want to think of a range of activities that you can add to your lesson to help your students grasp the concepts. There are resources within the portal and curriculum that you can use to assist you with your lessons.
Q3. Are there templates I can use?
Yes, we have templates for lesson plans, yearly planning and powerpoint presentations. You can find these in the resources section.
Q4. How much time should it take me to plan a lesson?
It can vary depending on the tutor but two hours is generally enough time to put together a lesson plan. Start with your high level outline and structure and then see what resources can support your ideas.
Communicating with students
Q1. Can I add students to my social media accounts?
No, we don’t allow tutors and students to connect on social media accounts. If a student gets a hold of your personal details you can send them through to Dianna or Monica to remind them of the requirements.
Q2. Can I give students my email address?
All communication with students will need to go through Nikoleta and the commsmanager@busstopfilms.com.au.
We do have an online chat function that students can access through the portal where they can also ask questions.
If you feel that you need to give them an email address then you’ll need to provide them with your Bus Stop Films email address.
Q3. What is the best way for me to communicate with my students?
The best way to communicate with your students is through the portal or via Nikoleta and the commsmanager@busstopfilms.com.au email address.
Q4. What if my student has a question outside of class about the program?
Students are encouraged to ask questions via the student portal and online chat function, commsmanager@busstopfilms.com.au or through Monica via supportmanager@busstopfilms.com.au
Guest tutors and Excursions
Q1. Who can be a guest tutor?
Guest tutors can be anyone that you think can add value to your class and the particular lesson or topic you are teaching.
Q2. How much can we offer a guest tutor?
Guest tutors are offered $45 per hour. All Guest tutors need to be signed off by the COO.
Q3. How many guest tutors are we allowed to have?
We recommend trying to lock in at least one to two guest tutors a term. We recognise that some terms may have more than others but if you aim for at least 4-8 over the year it’s a good guide.
Q4. If I have a guest tutor do I still have to be in the class?
Yes, your guest tutor doesn’t mean you are not in the class. You’ll need to be there.
Q5, How can I organise an excursion?
If you’ve got an excursion idea please reach out to Nikoleta at nikoleta@busstopfilms.com.au and she’ll assist you with setting this up and organising.
Q6. How much notice do I need to give my students?
You’ll need at least 3 weeks notice when planning an excursion to allow families the time they need to organise transport and other support.
Q7. How can I tell them about excursions?
You can let them know in class but all communication needs to go through commsmanager@busstopfilms.com.au
Q8. When can I set up an excursion?
You’re able to request an excursion throughout the year as long as it links to what you are teaching. Excursions do not need to be limited to the weekends.
Film project
Q1. Who selects the crew?
Bus Stop Films has a regular crew that they use but we are always open to meeting new people who are keen to learn and be part of making an inclusive filmmaking experience. If you have someone in mind we’d love to meet them.
Q2. Do I need to make my script have someone who has a disability in it?
No, it is about the story that is chosen and what suits the script.
Q3. Do my students need to act in the film?
No, we stress with students that we are not an acting school. For all roles open auditions are held and offered to all students. We do not hand select a student for the role. You would set up a casting call and audition day similar to any other film.
If you are looking for a specific actor usually Tracey or Dianna can reach out to them to see if they’d like to join the project.
Q4. How many days do I have to shoot?
You’ll only have one day to shoot.
Pay cycle and leave
Q1. When do I get paid?
Our pay cycle is fortnightly and on Fridays.
Q2. How can I access my payslips?
Your pay slips can be accessed via the portal.
Q3. Can I take time off?
If you need to have a weekend off please contact Dianna and provide as much notice as possible.
